A combination of genetics, lifestyle choices and the damaging effects of the sun’s rays make our skin look dull and lifeless over time. Thanks to the technology of Intense Pulsed Light, your pigment can be lightened to reveal a calmer, more even complexion – with a rush of collagen to create a lifted appearance at the same time.

What skin conditions can be treated with IPL?2021-11-20T13:53:05-07:00
  • Freckles, sun damage, age spots
  • Irregular pigmentation, pigment from acne scarring
  • Tiny spider veins, vascular lesions
  • Enlarged pores
  • Redness, flushing and Rosacea
  • Brown, red spots (hyperpigmentation)
  • Total rejuvenation (vibrant, healthy skin)
  • Psoriasis and Keloid scars
Are IPL treatments safe?2015-04-13T03:11:32-06:00

An intense pulsed light (IPL) is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels or pigmentation. The heat causes damage to the vessel or lesion, and the body begins its natural healing process. In most cases, the lesion will darken before it flakes off or the body absorbs it.

What are the risks of IPL treatments?2015-04-13T03:11:10-06:00

Side effects are rare. Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear flushed; brown pigmented spots may appear darker; and capillaries may be more visible. Pigment changes usually fade within a few days but can last longer. In rare instances, temporary swelling an/or blistering can occur.

How many IPL treatments will I need?2015-04-13T03:10:46-06:00

IPL treatments can be given as frequently as every 4-6 weeks. For optimal results, a series of six treatments are recommended. If one goes out in the sun without proper sunscreen protection, new sun damage will occur. Follow-up treatments may be desired once a year to maintain your fabulous results!!!!

Who is a good candidate for IPL?2020-03-02T10:59:01-07:00

Those who have fair skin respond best to IPL. IPL is not recommended for those who have undergone recent tanning/sunburns, spray tanning or use of Retin-A or other sensitizing products. At Barris Laser we can safely treat skin types 1-4. Skin types 5 or 6 cannot be treated with our laser (see Fitzpatrick Scale blog). For a free skin typing and laser hair removal consultation call us at 303-440-9493. One of our laser specialists will be happy to skin type you and laser a small test patch to find the safest laser for your skin.

What improvements will I see?2012-11-27T14:44:54-07:00

Patients have a high degree of satisfaction with their results. Expect to see a gradual decrease in redness, broken capillaries, flushing, irregular pigmentation, pore size, and fine lines. Your body will continue to produce collagen several months after your last treatment. Your skin will improve with each treatment feeling smoother and you will have a more even skin tone, regain elasticity and gain a more youthful look.

What can I expect during my IPL treatment?2012-11-27T14:43:24-07:00

Treatments may vary from 15 to 35 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. First, the treated area is cleansed and a cool gel is applied. When the pulse of light is delivered, the sensation is similar to a snap of a rubber band. After treatment, the gel is removed, the skin cleansed, and a sunscreen is applied. Topical anesthesia can be used for maximum comfort. For sensitive skin, a cool compress is applied following treatment.

Take some time. Treat yourself. You deserve it.
