You wake up and wash your face. After you workout, you wash your face again. At night before bed, you wash your face one. last. time.
But did you ever stop to think that overwashing your face could be making your skin worse?
Turns out our skin does a pretty good job already of taking care of itself! Yes, it’s true! We all have great functioning skin! So why do we make such a fuss about keeping it squeeky clean?
The trouble with overwashing your face is that it creates this cycle: overwashing your skin or using strong detergents strip your skin of its natural oils . Stripped of oils, your skin begs for more moisture. You then end up having dry skin and/or rashes and/or breaking out with acne and/or suffering from discoloration. Then you go out and spend a lot more money on moisturizers. This makes beauty manufacturers happy. But your wallet is sad and your skin is dry.
So what’s the solution to break this cycle and get beautiful skin? Just follow this simple two step approach:
(1) Acne or no acne, use a cleanser on the gentler side like Image’s Vital C Cleanser ($26.50) or Lexli’s Aloe Vera cleanser ($26.00) (my personal favorite of all time). This ensures that you’re not stripping your skin of essential oils.
(2) In addition to using a gentle cleanser, wash your face only ONCE a day, before bedtime and exfoliate only twice a week.
Even if you suffer from acne and feel like you NEED to wash your face at least twice a day, please do give this approach a try! Often times, acne is a result of stressing your skin too much. Try washing your face only once a day for a week or so, and you should immediately notice a difference, ESPECIALLY in this dry Colorado weather.
Sometimes, all our skin needs from us is a little rest and a little love <3
