There’s a seasonal shift in the air, and with temperatures dropping, it’s a safe bet that your skin is probably feeling dry and itchy, right? Well, we’re with 10 Winter Skin Tips for keeping your skin happy, hydrated, and healthy. Now try saying THAT three times! ;)
1. Watch your shower temperature.
Hot showers feel amazing, especially when you’ve been out in the cold. Obviously, it is not realistic to avoid hot showers all together, but do try and keep the water temperature closer to warm rather than scorching from November through March.
2. Drink more water.
This always seems to be an answer to everything that ails you, right? Well, here it is again: drink more water than you think you need to, or even really want to! This is one of the the best ways to keep your skin hydrated- from the inside out!
3. Cover up
On those brutally cold days, make sure you cover your entire body before stepping outside. I mean eyelids only, people! I myself like to look like an eskimo on such occasions.
4. Buy an inexpensive humidifier for the winter months.
Reap the benefits of hydrated skin while you sleep! Need I say more?
5. Use less soap.
A lot of cleansers aren’t gentle on skin. During the winter months, dermatologists recommend either using a little less of your face wash so that you remove dirt and makeup form your skin but leave all the essential oils intact OR switching to a moisturizing face wash, such as Image’s Vital C Cleanser.
6. Limit your cozy fireplace time.
Or if you have a fireplace addiction, try to at least keep a little more distance than usual.
7. Cream > Lotion
You know all those bottles of lotion you get in your stocking at Christmas? Many can actually irritate your skin with all of the fillers and fragrance. Creams, on the other hand, are MADE to deeply heal and moisturize. So get rid of those lotions and invest in a cream for the winter months ahead.
8. Lip balms are your best friend.
Lips take a lot of the whipping wind and bitter cold effects, and that means they need some special TLC. I’d definitely keep a tube handy on you and apply right before you head outside and especially right before bed every night. 9. Moisturize after your shower
Did you know that a steamy shower removes many of your body’s healthy, moisturizing oils? Time to replace all of them after that shower with a good moisturizer! And keep in mind what we said above: lotion < cream.
10. Butter hands
Hands are usually one of the first place to show signs of dehydration on the body. Avoid devaluing that perfect manicure with some cuticle oil or butter for your hands!
