Last week at Barris, we gave Dana our brand new treatment: Micro-Needling. For those not yet “in the know,” Micro-Needling is a cutting edge anti-aging treatment that restores the youthful appearance of the skin by sliding an electric skin needling device along the skin, which prompts the body to respond by creating new collagen and elastin fibers, therefore plumping the skin and reducing the appearance of scars, fine lines, pores, and wrinkles. Intrigued? Confused? Let me walk you through a treament!
Before
The esthetician applies numbing cream to Dana’s skin for about 30 minutes to minimize pain during the procedure. You can tell from the picture above that Dana already has great skin, though there are some lines underneath her eyes that could benefit from the micro-needling treatment, since such a treatment is intended to plump the skin and reduce the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.
During
After numbing Dana’s face, the esthetician begins to slide the skin needling device, which is studded with 12 very fine needles, along Dana’s skin. The device penetrates the upper layers of the skin to a depth of up to 2mm to create numerous tiny needle wounds, which you can see in the picture below, all over Dana’s forehead. The treatment is a little painful, but tolerabe, especially since the skin is numbed beforehand.
After
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE MICRO-NEEDLING TREATMENT
Immediately after the treatment, Dana’s skin experienced some rednesss similar to a mild sunburn. In addition, some minimal pin-point bleeding was visible, especially on her forehead (see picture above).
After the micro-needling treatment, the client gets to choose from a variety of serums based on their needs. On Dana, our esthetician Anna used a stem cell serum to stimulate cell regeneration. Aftwards, she then applied some green tea to Dana’s skin in order to relieve redness. She then followed it up with a soothing Vitamin-C serum to hydrate, heal, and protect the skin. The application of such products reduced the redness in Dana’s skin significantly and she was able to walk out the door without any downtime.
DAY 1 AFTER MICRO-NEEDLING
Dana’s skin is still a little pink, which is normal since most people experience redness and mild swelling similar to a sunburn for 24-48 hours after a micro-needling treatment. During this healing period, Dana avoids any products containing glycolic acid, retinol, acidic, or active ingredients. Instead, she uses Image’s MAX line in order to promote healing of the skin.
{Like Dana’s outfit? It’s her christmas pajamas to match her kids! #adorable}.
DAY 2 AFTER MICRO-NEEDLING
You can see that after 48hrs, the redness that Dana’s skin experienced as a result of the micro-needling treatment is basically gone. Her skin doesn’t appear swolen, and the small wounds created by the procedure are not noticeable. Within a week or two, Dana will experience smoother and more radiant looking skin, though the full effects of the treatment won’t been seen until a month or so later.
DAY 3 AFTER MICRO-NEEDLING
On the 3rd day after the treatment, Dana’s skin looks as if tiny needles hadn’t pierced it at all! The redness is completely gone, and strangers no longer look at her curiously.
