Sure, you’ve heard about Botox, but do you know about Dysport? Worry not, we’re here to tell you exactly what Dysport is, and how it differs from the popular and well-known Botox injections.
- So what exactly is Dysport?
Dysport is an injectable treatment for wrinkles made out of the botulinum toxin type A neurotoxin.
- Is Dysport safe to use?
Absolutely! Dysport has been approved by the FDA for use as a wrinkle treatment since 2009. Several years prior to 2009, Dysport was already widely popular in Europe, South America, and elsewhere.
- How is Dysport different from Botox?Dysport is made from the same neurotoxin as Botox and they are both used to treat wrinkles and fine lines. However, Dysport diffuses a bit farther from the injection point than Botox- 1 to 3 centimeters to be exact, when compared to Botox’s 1 centimeter. As such, when using Dysport instead of Botox, fewer injections are needed, which means ultimately that you are getting more bang for your buck.
- How do Dysport Injections work? Many facial wrinkles are the result of nerve cells that have been conditioned to tell muscles to contract. Because we so often contract muscles in the forehead, around the eyes, and around the mouth, the nerves begin telling the muscles to remain contracted. Dysport blocks these signals from the nerves, allowing the muscles to relax and smoothing the wrinkles that they cause. Habitual muscle contractions are blocked, but after a short time the nerve extends new branches to the muscle that allow for voluntary muscle contraction, so you don’t lose expressiveness in treated areas.
- What are the benefits of Dysport Injections? There are numerous benefits of using Dysport, including: Safe and effective treatment of many types of wrinkles (frown lines, crow’s feet, lines/wrinkles on the lips and on the neck), quick procedure with no recovery time, quick clinical results (typically within 8-10 days), and few side effects.
- Where are Dysport injections typically conducted?
You can apply Dysport to the following areas: frown lines in the forehead, crow’s feet at the corner of the eyes, lipstick lines around the mouth, neck, and underarms to treat excessive perspiration.
Additionally, Dysport can be used to soften or erase lines aroung the mouth, to sculpt the face by raising one or both eyebrows, as well as to smooth vertical and horizontal neck lines by relaxing the neck muscle.
- How long does the effect of Dysport last?
Dysport benefits will last a variable amount in each person. Usually, it will last somewhere between 3 and 6 months.
People with deeper frown lines, for example, tend to have stronger muscles and in turn tend to see the lines return quicker than those with less bulky muscles. In these kind of people, Dysport may only last 2-3 months.
