Beautiful skin comes from healthy living, and a huge part of that is what you’re feeding your body. When you eat a diet rich in fresh, unprocessed foods, you nourish your skin and as a result, you’ll begin to see that “glow” that so many people talk about. And we get it, it gets a little harder to eat healthy around this time of year with all the holidaze, but add in some of the foods below to your shopping list this season and give your skin some love, from the inside out!

AVOCADO

You probably know that avocado is good for your skin because of its healthy fatty acids. These fatty acids are exactly what you need if you want to help your skin stay moisturized and soft. The best part is that you can eat avocado with basically anything- on top of toast, as a side to eggs, in smoothies and soups for extra creaminess, or on its own drizzled with a little honey. Just make sure you eat it in moderation, as with all other healthy fats.

GREENS

There’s a reason your mother always told you to eat your greens! When it comes to your greens, the darker the healthier so look for dark, leafy greens like kale, spinach, and romaine. Romaine, in particular, with its high content of Vitamin A is great for revitalizing skin. Eat it in a salad with a little lemon and olive oil, or toss it in a juicer with cucumber and lemon for a thirst-quenching treat.

FENNEL TEA

Fennel tea may not be very known here in the U.S., but it has been a beauty staple for ages in many households in India due to is digestive qualities. The tea from fennel seeds is also antiseptic and loaded with antioxidants, treating cell damage and helping your skin cells regenerate. Add this tea to your daily diet as part of your anti-aging routine and/or if you’re looking to delay the onset of lines and dark spots (and who isn’t?)

ROSE WATER

Rose water is a great anti-inflammatory and helps improve skin conditions like acne and rosacea. Not to mention a few spritz of it on skin feels fantastic! You can apply rose water to skin topically with a cotton ball, or add it to smoothies or any other liquids of choice. For a special treat, keep a spray bottle of rose water in your fridge for a soothing, moisturizing spritz whenever you fancy.

CACAO

Did you know that Cacao is one of the foods highest in antioxidants and vitamin c?  But we’re not talking about eating a hershey’s kiss and calling it a day; for health benefits, make sure you buy raw, organic cacao which is less sugar-laden and more mineral-rich than processed chocolate. You can get raw cacao in powder form and add it to smoothies and/or pancakes or throw a few cacao nibs into a trail mix or  your morning oatmeal. For a shot of cacao with a punch, Ozo Coffee Company can add a raw shot of cacao to any of your drink orders. Do we even need to tell you how amazing a mocha becomes with a shot of mexican cacao? Didn’t think so.
