Intense Pulsed Light Skin Rejuvenation, often shortened to IPL Skin Rejuvenation or Photorejuvenation is a skin rejuvenation technique that employs state-of-the art technology to rejuvenate your skin.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation uses laser-like technology to dramatically improve visible signs of chronic exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Freckles, fine lines and wrinkles, broken capillaries, dark spots, blotchy skin tone, redness, and enlarged pores can all be minimized by this technique.

THE BENEFITS OF IPL INCLUDE:

  • Fading brown spots
  • Lessening of redness on skin
  • Improvement to skin tone and texture
  • Effectively treats the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands

HOW THE TREATMENT WORKS

Unlike lasers, an IPL device has the ability to send out more than one wavelength of pulsating light. This means it can treat a range of skin conditions at once.

The device uses light to target a certain color in your skin. Then, when the skin is heated, your body gets rid of the unwanted cells, which can dramatically improve the look and feel of your skin.

After IPL, you may look younger because your skin tone is more even. This is an outpatient procedure most people recover very quickly from since the light only affects the tissue in question.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BE TREATED WITH IPL?

Those who have fair skin respond best to IPL. IPL is not recommended for those who have undergone recent tanning/sunburns, spray tanning or use of Retin-A or other sensitizing products. At Barris Laser we can safely treat skin types 1-4. Skin types 5 or 6 cannot be treated with our laser (see Fitzpatrick Scale blog).

  • Freckles, sun damage, age spots
  • Irregular pigmentation, pigment from acne scarring
  • Tiny spider veins, vascular lesions
  • Enlarged pores
  • Redness, flushing and Rosacea
  • Brown, red spots (hyperpigmentation)
  • Total rejuvenation (vibrant, healthy skin)
  • Psoriasis and Keloid scars

Almost any area of the body can be treated and the most common are the legs, back, neck, upper lip, chin, underarms, stomach, bikini line, face, and chest.

The treatment is low on the pain scale. You may feel a slight tingling or pinch, similar to the snap of a rubber band on your skin, but most people tolerate the procedure very well. Of course, some areas of the body are more sensitive than others and you may choose to have a topical anesthetic applied to increase comfort during the procedure.

For smaller areas, the treatment can be relatively short; within 15-20 minutes. Larger areas, such as the back or legs, may require up to an hour. Prior to starting the treatment, you will be given a time estimate.

After IPL treatment, reduce sun exposure by applying sun block; SPF 30 or above. In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleaners as it may damage your skin. You also shouldn’t use Vitamin A or glycolic acid products on the area for approximately 48 hours.

IPL treatments can be given as frequently as every 4-6 weeks. For optimal results, a series of six treatments are recommended. If one goes out in the sun without proper sunscreen protection, new sun damage will occur. Follow-up treatments may be desired once a year to maintain your fabulous results!!!!
