The factors that contribute to acne can range anywhere from oily clogged pores to a build up of dead skin cells. However, the causes that aggravate acne usually stem from hormonal changes, diet and certain medications. But what about stress? Although it hasn’t ben medically proven, there is a connection between stress and acne. According to a Stanford University study published in the Archives of Dermatology,  researches found that there was a distinct connection between students having increased acne flare-ups during exam periods when they were under high-stress.

To keep your skin under control, here are a few methods of eliminating stress:

1. Don’t procrastinate. Letting the work load pile up will certainly lead to an increased stressed level, so it is important to have a to-do list, stay on-top of homework and use a planner.

2. Organize your life. Disorganization leads to chaos, even visual clutter can interfere with your mood. Keep your desk clean and take time out of your day to organize your life.

3. Exercise. Increasing endorphins is a natural way to lift your mood as well as lower rates of depression. Endorphins are manufactured in your brain and release a chemicals called neurotransmitters that are often described as euphoric.

4. Eat Healthy. We all know it’s important to eat healthy, it’s been ingrained in us since we were children refusing to eat our vegetables, but it truly is important to eat the proper amount of vitamins and nutrients. Protein and Omega 3’s contribute to mental health and alertness. Don’t skip meals and have snacks throughout the day.

5. RELAX. Take breaks throughout your busy day to stretch, walk around and socialize.
