Removing unwanted hair with a laser may seem a bit scary for some. But worry not! We’re here to answer some of our clients’ most frequent asked questions and put your mind at ease:
Who is a good candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is not effective on persons with blonde, red, or gray hairs (these people may, however, remove unwanted hair with electrolysis). A good candidate for laser hair removal will therefore have dark body hair and a fair to medium skin tone.
How does Laser hair removal work and which areas of the body can go through the laser hair removal process ?
Laser Hair removal uses the advanced technology of laser energy to remove unwanted hair faster and more effectively than any other procedure, including electrolysis. Laser Hair removal can treat large areas like the back, shoulders, arms, legs, underarms, and is gentle enough for sensitive areas on the body, like the face and bikini area. Laser hair removal cannot be done in the eyebrow area for purposes of eyebrow shaping.
How much does laser hair removal cost?
Here at Barris we can charge you two ways: (1) Per session; or (2) One time charge for a series of 6 treatments. Both of these payment options have varying prices, depending on what area of the body you decide to treat with the laser. For example, one session of underarm laser hair removal will be significantly cheaper than one session of a full back laser hair removal. Give us a call if you’d like specific prices. But remember, the larger the area, the pricier laser hair removal gets.
How should I prepare for my laser treatment?
To have the most effective treatment, if you have been tanning, waxing, plucking or using depilatories on the area, please discontinue at least 4 weeks prior to treatment. For your appointment, arrive with the area shaven with a minimal amount of growth and ready for treatment. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. In a fraction of a second, all hairs in their active growth phase are disabled.
How many treatments would I need ?
Laser hair removal treats hair during its growth cycle. Generally a series of 6-8 treatments are necessary to achieve desired result, with at least 3-4 weeks rest in between each session for most areas of the body (note that legs require at least 6 weeks in between each treatment). Therefore, we advise that if you want to hair free for summer, you begin the treatment in the winter, since it can be a lengthy process and you will have to avoid the sun for at least 2 weeks after each treatment. Skin that is tanned cannot be lasered, which is another reason why starting your laser hair removal treatment in the winter is the best time.
