Who loves Halloween? I do! I do!

Whether you’re planning a scary costume or just enjoy the novelty of dressing up, Halloween is all about deviating from your everyday look. If you are planning on partaking in this season’s festivities, there are a few things you may want to take into consideration. Since we’re not getting any younger and we’re far more conscious of our skin, these tips will help you avoid post-Zombie makeup breakouts, dried out skin and all that jazz.

  •  Invest in High Quality Makeup
  • Those $10 palettes at the Halloween store will be hypoallergenic, but the manufacturers are not concerned with them being noncomedogenic. They don’t care if it clogs pores. We recommend paying a little more for professional or theater makeup.

  • Start with a professional-grade barrier cream.
  • Before applying all those layers of makeup and face paint, begin with a professional-grade barrier cream. The difference between this (carried by professional-makeup suppliers) and a regular primer (carried at Walgreens) is that this is actually sealing off your skin so that the makeup you put on top of it can’t be absorbed. Barrier creams are especially useful if you’re painting your face a color that you don’t want it to be the next day.

  • DO NOT leave that heavy costume makeup on overnight!
  • In the name of all things hallowed and scary, remove your makeup before crashing for the night. Sleeping with Halloween makeup (good or poor quality) will have repercussions on your skin.

Thick creams and bases require double washing to really clear out the pores, otherwise you could be looking at a serious acne breakout in the morning. Or worse, an allergic reaction. Ouch!

There’s nothing quite like a deep cleansing face mask to really clear those pores. Try Image Skincare’s The Max Facial Cleanser: A foaming gel cleanser that removes dirt, oil and makeup without stripping the skin. Plant stem cells and antioxidants infuse the skin with protecting attributes and leave skin silky-soft.

Manual cleansing alone doesn’t remove all the buildup from dirt, oil and makeup. Utilizing a Clarisonic will effectively polish the skin to a deep clean without stripping it down. The technology behind the Clarisonic makes it an effective tool for deep-cleansing and will help remove Halloween makeup.

  • Calm Irritation
  • Glitter, prosthetic wounds, and any other fun stuff you are using to enhance your costume can cause irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin. Try layering on Image Skincare’s Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Masque before bed in place of your moisturizer. The Nourishing Vitamins A, C, and E promote healthier, more radiant youthful skin.

  • Post-Partying

The morning after your Halloween festivities, your skin may be looking a bit tired. Use Image Skincare’s Iluma Intense Brightening Exfoliating Powder for an energized look and feel.

To balance out the candy and sugary drinks, be sure to supplement your diet with plenty of veggies to help give your skin the nutrition it needs to maintain a healthy complexion.

And here’s one final basic tip that people are so quick to forget; stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water in between bite-sized candy bars and sugary cocktails can really be your saving grace; for your hangover and your skin!

Hope all you beauty babes take care of your skin this All Hallows Eve. What will you be dressing up as and what is your favourite costume makeup? Be sure to share in the comment section below. Happy trick or treating!
